Lovely Lily Pad Merci

This week the Create with Connie & Mary Challenge is a color challenge.

CCMC597

ASID-CCMC597

I used an Aqua Painter and Pool Party ink on watercolor paper to create a wash of color.  I wanted a soft look so I used a lot of water on the paper.  The flowers were stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink on Petal Pink CS.  I used a Blender pen to pull the color from the stamped lines.   I loved how they turned out.

ASID-CCMC597-side

The "merci" and the swirly tendrils were cut in Cherry Cobbler CS using the Parisian dies.  I also embossed the Petal Pink layer using the Parisian Flourish 3-D Embossing Folder.   I wanted to a little sparkle so I added a few white From My Heart Faceted Gems.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Create with Connie & Mary design team created for this challenge.

Kerchief Card kit

Recently I was looking for a stamping project to take with me on a short getaway.   I didn't have much room in my luggage so whatever I took had to be pretty compact.  I realized that the Sale-A-Bration Kerchief card kit was an all-inclusive kit and would be perfect to take along.  The only thing extra I needed to pack was a scissors to cut the twine.  I thought about not taking a scissors or the twine and adding the bows when I got back home.  While I was finishing up my packing I found a blunt tip scissors that my son used when he was little and knew it would cut the twine and not cause any trouble going through security.

ASID_SABkerchiefkit-2

I pretty much made the cards exactly the way the kit instructed except for making them both in landscape and portrait orientation.  This was a very relaxing kit to make.  The sentiments are pre-printed and generic enough to fit many occasions.

ASID-SABKerchiefkit-1

This kit is perfect to take along when you travel or just want to work on something quick and cute.  I will get another kit and make some alternate designs or maybe not, since these are great just as they were designed.

Now the Kerchief Crd kit is a Sale-A-Bration choice.  Here in the US when you place a qualifying order of $50 you can choose this kit as a free product choice.  The kit is currently unavailable but more of the kits are on the way and should again be available on February 3.

Forever Blossoms Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are difficult cards to make but they are so important.

ASID-CherryBlossom-sympathy

I wanted very softly colored blossoms so I used part of a Stamping Sponge scrunched up and lightly sponged on Petal Pink ink on the flowers.  I did the same thing to color the leaves except using Pear Pizzaz ink.  I wanted to keep everything soft so I inked the the sentiment in VersaMark ink, then in  the Petal Pink ink pad and then sprinkled it with Clear embossing powder.  This little trick is so helpful when you want a color embossed look but do not have the right color of embossing powder.

The front of the card was embossed using the Parisian Flourish 3-D Embossing folder, which is BEAUTIFUL!  The folder creates a very elegant backdrop.

ASID-CherryBlossom-sympathyside

The frame was created by using the largest scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly dies and a Stitched Rectangle die.  After I attached the frame blossoms to the card I felt it was a little bare so I added another flower and leaf.  Can you tell where it is?  To finish off the card I added a little bow made from the Petal Pink Striped Organdy ribbon.  This ribbon is so easy to tie and is one of my favorites.

Well, it is time for me to get this card in the mail.  Thank you for stopping by.

Special Someone

Ready for another Festive Friday Challenge?

FF51

How do you play along?  Just pick 3 items from the Inspo list to include in your projects and submit it to the Festive Friday gallery by the due date.   The project you create doesn't have to celebrate Valentine's Day but it does need to include 3 items from the Inspo List.  Here is a link to how to play along with the challenge.

ASID-FF51

I chose to use hearts, doilies, and red from the Inspo List. I could even claim glitter since he is holding a glittery red heart.   Isn't the raccoon from the Special Someone set so cute?  From the first time I saw the catalog I knew the set would have to be mine.  Beginning on February 4th, the Special Day dies that coordinates with the Special Someone set will become available.  As a demonstrator I was able to pre-order them which is what I used to cut out Mr. Raccoon.

Let's Make It

  • Cut out 2 tags from the Golden Honey Specialty DSP (Sale-A-Bration choice)  using the tag die from the Bonanza dies.
  • Score the bottom of the tags 1-1/4" .  This is how big the item I wanted to insert measures.
  • Apply adhesive to one of the 1-1/4" rectangles and place the other tag over it.
  • ASID-FF51tute
  • Secure the treat in the holder with adhesive.  I used a Ferrero Rocher.
  • Thread a 4" piece of Real Red ribbon through the tag holes and tie a bow around the ribbon using White Baker's Twine
  • Stamp the outline raccoon image in Basic Gray ink.
  • Ink the bold raccoon stamp in Basic Gray ink and stamp off once on a piece of scrap paper and then over the outline raccoon image.
  • Cut out the raccoon using the Special Day dies or fussy cut.
  • Using Stampin' Dimensionals attach the raccoon to a red heart doily
  • Stamp "for you" on Whisper White card stock.  Cut out using the banner die from the Clubhouse bundle.
  • Cut 2 hearts out of Red Glitter paper
  • Attach one heart to the raccoons paws using a part of a Stampin' Dimensional.
  • Attach one heart to the banner.  Attach the banner using SNAIL adhesive to the doily.
  • Using Stampin' Dimensionals attach the doily to the treat holder.

ASID-FF51-side

Cute and simple little treat to give to your friends, co-workers, or anytime you need a little treat holder.  Now it is time for you to figure out what you are going to make for the Festive Friday Challenge #FF0051.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team created.

Bonanza Buddies

Time for the Create with Connie & Mary Thursday Challenge!  This week it is a sketch challenge #CCMC596.

CCMC596

You know I love a sketch with 3 things in a row.  It is a design I turn to a lot.  The hardest thing for me was to decide what stamp set, dies, I wanted to feature.

ASID-CCMC596

Bonanza Buddies! The card I made is very similar to the sample in the Mini Catalog.   Instead of just the koala bear I used all of the animals.  The animals were cut out from the Birthday Bonanza DSP.  It is a fun option to be able to do that.   I added the balloons (from the Special Someone set and cut them out using the soon to be released-February 4th-Special Day dies) instead of the banners.  I also added some So Saffron Metallic Baker's twine which is a Sale-A-Bration choice.

ASID-CCMC596-side

The balloons were stamped and then filled in using the Shimmery Crystal Effects.  The Shimmery Crystal Effects debuted in the 2019 Holiday Catalog and is a Carryover Item.  The Shimmer is subtle and a very cool effect mixed in with the Crystal Effects.

Thank you for stopping by.  Be sure to check out what the other members of the design team created with the sketch.

What's New at SU...Peaceful Poppies Suite

What's new hop

Welcome to the What's New at SU! blog hop.  I am happy that you are joining us. We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from around the world.. Today we will be sharing ideas using the products in the Peaceful Poppies Suite in the January-June 2020 Mini Catalog. I know you will find a lot of wonderful ideas!

The product I chose to feature are the  Poppy Moments Dies from the Peaceful Poppies Suite.  These dies are one of my very favorites from the January-June 2020 Mini Catalog.  They are big, bold and make quite a statement.

ASID-Poppieswallhanging

I got this idea from BJ Peters.  She used something called screen lathe for the wood pieces but I wasn't able to find that product.  I went to the hardware store and bought an 8 ft long piece of what I think is molding.  It is flat on one side and rounded on the other.  We cut it to 6" lengths and sanded the cut edges.  I painted the front and ends of the wood pieces a couple of times using black acrylic paint. It is also a good idea to paint the back side of the wood.

The Whisper White CS I used measures 5-1/2" x 5-1/2".  I stamped the sentiment from the Here's to Strong Women set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  The poppies were cut using Cherry Cobbler for the outline and Poppy Parade for the base with Basic Black for the centers.  The leaves were cut using Mossy Meadow as the outline and Old Olive for the base.

ASID-PoppiesWallHanging-close

When positioning the flowers remember that the wood pieces still need to be attached, so you do not want to position the flowers or leaves all the way to the top or bottom edge of the paper.  The wood pieces are secured to the paper using Tear & Tape Adhesive.  You need to also attach a cord of some kind to hang it.  I used the Black 1/8" Cord which is currently on the Clearance Rack for $2.40!  I added some additional Tear and Tape to secure down the cord.  I cut strips of Basic Black CS to cover up the back of the wood.  This little step goes a long way to adding a finishing touch to the project.

Painted Poppies Trifold

Last week there were a lot of hearts, reds and pinks on the blog.  This week it is Black, White, Red, and poppies, at least for today and tomorrow.

ASID-Painted PoppiesB&W

This is the first time I used the Painted Poppies stamp set and it only seemed right to pair it with my favorite Sale-A-Bration choice, the Golden Honey Specialty DSP.  This is a tri-fold card and I haven't made this card style in quite a while.  You can see a tutorial HERE.  The scoring and products used are a little different but the concept is the same.

ASID-PaintedPoppiesB&W-3

This isn't a difficult style of card to make at all.  It is a fun way to show off how nicely your DSP patterns coordinate.

  • Basic Black CS 4-1/4" x 11" scored at 3" and 7"
  • Black & White stripe from the Golden Honey Specialty DSP 2-3/4"x 4" and  1/2"x 4" (inside of the card)
  • Black & White hexagon pattern 3-3/4" x 4"
  • Whisper White (inside of the card) 2-1/4" x 4"
  • Largest Circle die from the Layering Circles
  • #7 Circle and #7 scalloped circle (#1 being the smallest circle)
  • 5 Tiny butterflies cut from the Butterfly Beauty dies out of Black Glimmer paper (unfortunately this is a retired product.  It was so perfect for the project, I decided to use it!))

ASID-PaintedPoppiesB&W-4

Inside I used one of the die cuts from the Peaceful Poppies Elements, strip of DSP and a black glitter butterfly.

ASID-PaintedPoppiesB&W-close

I colored the poppies with the Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends Combo pack.  It is quick and easy to color in.

ASID-PaintedPoppiesB&W-side

Hope you enjoyed today's project.  Below I have listed all the products I used to make this card with links to where you can find them.

More From My Heart Specialty DSP

It has been a week full of hearts and flowers!  Finishing up the week with one more card using the From My Heart Specialty DSP.

ASID-BeMineframe

Just like my card on Monday, it is just dies and no stamping.   Let's break down the card.

  • Real Red card base 4-1/4" x 11" scored at 5-1/2"
  • From My Heart Specialty DSP 4" x 5-1/4"
  • Flirty Flamingo CS cut using the Stitched So Sweetly die-the largest rectangle.  Cut out a frame using the Stitched Rectangle dies.  Layer this on to the From My Heart DSP using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Whisper White CS cut using the same Stitched Rectangle die used in the prior step.  Insert and adhere it inside of the Flirty Flamingo frame.
  • Real Red "love" cut using the Well Written dies adhered to the Whisper White CS
  • Real Red CS cut the long hearts die from the Stitched Be Mine dies.  Set aside the solid hearts.
  • This is the kind of "fiddly" step.  Attach the heart outline to the frame & inside of the frame using mini dimensionals.  Place the dimensionals behind the cutouts you will fill in with the solid hearts.  Place the hearts inside of the heart outlines, covering up the dimensionals.
  • Cut out Whisper White flowers using the Lovely Flowers dies.
  • Cut out Old Olive leaves using the small leaves die in the Cherry Blossom dies
  • Glue the leaves to the backs of the flower and then secure the flowers to frame using mini dimensionals.  I also used a few flowers to help secure the heart outline to the frame.
  • Place Red Rhinestones in the center of the flowers.
  • Whisper White CS 4" x 5-1/4" adhered to the inside of the card.
  • 1/2" x 4" strip of DSP to the Whisper White CS inside of the card.  Attach a couple of hearts to the strip.

ASID-BeMineframe-side

Yes, it does get a little fussy attaching the hearts and I probably won't make a ton of these but I sure love how it turned out.  If I come up with a better way to attach the hearts I will let you know.

Painted Poppies

This week the Create with Connie & Mary Challenge #CCMC595 is a color challenge.

CCMC595

Honestly I think color challenges are harder for me than sketch challenges.  I should look back at prior posts because I probably say that about sketch challenges too!  I am happy with the end result but it took me a while to get there.

ASID-CCMC595

This is a quick and easy card.  I stamped the image from the Painted Poppies set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored them in using Poppy Parade, Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blends.  I also used the Color Lifter to lighten some of the areas of the flowers to create some shading.   The Layering Squares dies were used to cut out the flowers and the Rich Razzleberry scallop behind the flowers.  I attached a flower sequin from the Peaceful Poppies Sequins to each square and inserted a Silver Metallic Pearl in the center.

ASID-CCMC595side

I used the Scripty 3-D Embossing folder (one of my faves!) and embossed a white panel to place the squares on.  Are you wondering why I didn't just emboss the front of the card base?  I wanted to hide the Poppy Parade ribbon from showing on the inside of the card.

Be sure to check out what the other members of the Create with Connie & Mary design team created for this challenge.
