Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop...Never Have I Ever
August 12, 2020
Welcome to the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop! We have a total of 19 stops on this blog hop and lots of fun and inspiration for you. This month the theme is, Shake Things Up. What does that mean? We were challenged to try something new whether it was a new fold, technique, anything new to us.
I have been seeing lots of slimline cards and decided that was something I needed to try. What is a slimline card? Basically it is a card that fits in a standard business size envelope.
I cut my Thick Whisper White Cardstock to 7" x 8-1/2" and scored it at 3-1/2". This results in a 3-1/2" x 8-1/2" card. So, a disadvantage to a Slimline card is that you can only get one card base out of a 8-1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock but it was fun to have so much space to play with. The other something new for me is that this was my very first play with the Poinsettia Petals bundle. I resisted as long as I could and finally had to order this bundle. The poinsettias are beautiful. You can cut the flower and emboss the design at the same time.
The first layer on the card base is a 3-1/4" x 8-1/4" piece of Gold Foil. On top of the foil is one of my favorite items from the 2020 Aug-Dec 2020 Mini Catalog, Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper. The flocked designs on top of the vellum are simply beautiful. This piece is 3" x 8". All the flowers are cut from Whisper White cardstock which had been sprayed with a mixture of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and Rubbing Alcohol in a Stampin' Spritzer. This adds a subtle shimmer to the poinsettias. All the leaves and berries(?) were cut out of Gold Foil. I wanted to keep the color palette very simple.
In the Poinsettia Place Suite there are some beautiful Beaded Pearls. I forgot to order them so I improvised by adding rhinestones to the center of the flowers. On the larger flower there are 7 rhinestones. The smaller flower doesn't seem to have a specific center so I punched the medium size flower using the Confetti Flowers border punch and placed a single rhinestone. The sentiment was stamped using VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Gold embossing powder and cut out using one of the Stitched Rectangles.
It was fun and challenging figuring out how to use all the space. Slimline cards will definitely be something I will incorporate into my cardmaking repertoire. Thank you Angie (our leader) for this fun theme!
